From the Pastor
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
We
began what is known as “Ordinary Time” this past Tuesday,
and while it is called “Ordinary”, there really is nothing
ordinary about it.
We celebrated the birth of Christ - the Word made
flesh - at Christmas, and the Christmas season ended with
the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
But the gift of Christ we received at Christmas can
only be understood as we live out our Christian life -
remembering the extraordinary gift of Christ that we
received at our Baptism, and integrating it into ordinary,
everyday life.
The ordinariness of our life changes as we prayerfully
engage it - allowing our life to be transformed and
ultimately transforming the lives of those around us.
This is what we see in today’s Gospel as the ordinary
lives of two of John’s disciples are transformed by their
extraordinary encounter with Jesus, the Lamb of God.
Change is the natural fruit of our encounter with
Christ; any darkness we may have in our life is brought into
the exposure of Christ’s light and we experience healing and
freedom. As we
begin the new year, let’s be fearless and engage our lives
with the belief that faith in Christ transforms us into the
authentic men and women God created us to be!
Your Brother in Christ,
Fr
Chris

WHY IS IT HERE?
Have you
noticed the Lighthouse Catholic Media CD/pamphlet rack in our
office? Want to know what it’s about?
St Joseph Communications started Lighthouse to address
John Paul II’s call to a new evangelization, using all new
communication means. But they also wanted to respond to five
studies that provided sad statistics about Catholics:
(1) 65% of Catholics
don’t attend Mass every Sunday. (2) 120,000 Catholics leave
Church every year. (3) 45% of
Catholics don’t believe in the True Presence of Jesus in the
Eucharist! So, St
Joseph started Lighthouse to answer the questions, relieve the
doubts, help Catholics know and love their Church. Please check
out the CDs and brochures so these statistics will change for
the better! CD's are only $3.00 and brochures are $.50. This
is an inexpensive and effective way to learn and spread our
beautiful faith!
