Those who proclaim God's word in the liturgy are known as
Ministers of the Word or Lectors. When you answer the call to be a
Lector, you enter a deeper relationship with God revealed in sacred
scripture. You take upon yourself the awesome duty and privilege of
bringing the printed word to life, making it flesh!
The Lector proclaims God's word to the assembled faith
community. It's that simple and that sublime. Although the ministry is a
simple one, that does not mean that it's easy to do well or requires
little energy or effort!
Lectors proclaim the sacred scripture readings for Sunday,
daily, and Holy Day Masses.
Lectors are required to attend a training session at least
once a year and, after the training they are commissioned to serve.
